Legal
Advertising policy.
Effective date: 1 October 2026. This policy explains how advertising may appear on this website, how the ad network behind it uses data, and how you can opt out.
Why this site may carry advertising
36 BOR LTD. is a small independent studio. Advertising revenue helps keep this website online and, occasionally, helps northern independents like the ones we design for get seen by more people. Where ads are shown on this site, they are served by Microsoft Advertising (formerly Bing Ads). We do not sell advertising directly, we do not choose individual advertisers whose ads you will see, and we never receive a list of who saw or clicked what.
How ad serving works
When a page loads, your browser makes a request to Microsoft's ad servers. Based on the page content, general location derived from your IP address, and — only where you have consented — your browsing profile, Microsoft selects an ad to fill the space. The advertiser pays Microsoft; Microsoft shares a portion of that revenue with us. We are paid per impression or per click, but we never see your identity in any of this.
Ads served on this site must comply with Microsoft's advertising policies, which you can read at about.ads.microsoft.com/en-us/policies.
How Microsoft uses cookies and data
Microsoft may set and read cookies and use similar technologies to:
- Count how many times an ad has been shown and prevent the same ad being shown to you too often (frequency capping).
- Detect click fraud and measure ad performance.
- Remember whether you have opted in or out of personalised advertising.
- Where you have consented, build an advertising profile from your browsing activity so the ads you see are more relevant to your interests.
Full details of what Microsoft collects and how it is processed are in the Microsoft privacy statement.
Personalised vs non-personalised ads
Personalised ads are selected using a profile of your interests built from your browsing across sites that partner with Microsoft. On this site, personalised ads are only shown if you accepted cookies in our consent banner. If you decline, or withdraw consent later, ads may still appear — but they will be non-personalised, chosen mainly from the content of the page you are reading and your general location. Non-personalised ads still use limited cookies or identifiers for counting, frequency capping and fraud prevention, as described above.
How to opt out
You have several routes, and they can be combined:
- On this site — use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer to withdraw your consent. The banner will return; choose "Decline" and personalised advertising stops here.
- Microsoft ad personalisation — visit your Microsoft privacy dashboard to turn off personalised ads across Microsoft's network.
- Industry opt-outs — the Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info and the Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org let you opt out of interest-based advertising from many participating companies at once, including Microsoft.
- Browser controls — block third-party cookies in your browser settings, or use a tracking-protection feature. Note that non-personalised ads may still use strictly limited cookies as explained above.
Opt-outs are generally recorded in a cookie themselves, so if you clear your browser cookies you may need to repeat them.
What we never do
We never pass your contact details to advertisers. We never run pop-ups, auto-playing video ads, or ads that block the content you came to read. If an ad on this site ever feels misleading or intrusive, email studio@36bor.co.uk and we will raise it with Microsoft.
Changes to this policy
If we change ad provider, add new ad formats, or the law changes how we must describe all of this, this page will be updated and the effective date at the top will change with it.
